When my dear sister-in-law (my hubby’s sister, Denise) emailed and asked for my help to design a Thank You card, I was honored for two reasons.
First reason, I felt it was a compliment. To be asked to help design a card must mean that I’m doing something right! Anyone can CASE (COPY AND SHARE EVERYTHING) a card or change up a few things to call it their own. I really try to come up with my own designs for the most part. If I do CASE a card, I will definitely give credit where credit is due.
Second reason, the Thank You cards are to go to two people who helped make it possible for Denise to receive her daughter’s diploma from the University of Illinois. Why is that a big deal? Her daughter, Caitlin, committed suicide nearly a year ago come next month in March. She was about to turn 21 last April and graduate from college. She had her whole life ahead of her. None of it made sense, it never does for those of us who are left behind. Heartbreak is an understatement! Suicide is a real problem! The American Foundation of Suicide Prevention (www.asp.org) is the nation’s largest non-profit dedicated to saving and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. If you know of someone who could benefit from learning more about suicide, donating, or getting support; please give them this information. It could make all the difference in the world!
After I made my first card, I decided to design two more cards (see below). The one with the blue card base I have a booboo! You can see a hairline of blue up at the top of the card. No problem, I’ll be making that one again in the future! I wanted to use the school colors for the University of Illinois since the two individuals receiving them are part of the University personnel. Thank goodness I found the RGB codes for the shade of blue. I had to go back to Midnight Muse from the 2012-2014 In Colors! It was a VERY close match!! WooHoo! The ribbon is retired as well, but you can recreate this card using ANY COLOR and different ribbon!
I have four pearls on the card on the left. Can you see them in the floral cutout? My name is covering one of them. I also have one in the curly “y” in the word “kindly”. I used pearls on all three cards. I wanted the cards to be classy yet elegant. Denise loved them all! This is what she had to say, “I can’t thank you enough for helping me. These are exactly what I was hoping for, but so much prettier than I could actually do.” She chose the two cards with the white card base! I did a poll. My hubby likes the one with the Midnight Muse card base. My daughter, Tenaya, likes the first one (at top) I made. Which one do you like?

I love that color, Midnight Muse! So, with that said, I am picking the blue background but I really like both. I never thought about it being the dreaded blue for U of Illinois. Thank goodness you didn’t add an orange bow!
