My ‘Thinking of You’ masculine card came together rather nicely! I picked out a sheet of Designer Series Paper and a stamp set and got busy. Just an FYI, if my photos seem blurry . . . they very well may be. I’m waiting to have cataract surgery but I haven’t even been able to get in to see the surgeon. My appointment has been pushed off into November. I’m disappointed but I just have to wait my turn. I’ll be so happy to see clearly again but until then, please forgive any blurriness in my photos.
Card Details
My card base is Basic Black cardstock (8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″) with a layer of woodgrain paper from the Country Woods 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper (DSP). My DSP layer is cut at 4″ x 5-1/4″ and adhered onto the card base with Multipurpose Liquid Glue. The black and white tones in this woodgrain pattern pairs with the Basic Black cardstock very nicely! I used the ‘Thinking of You’ stamp from the With You In Mind Photopolymer Stamp Set for the sentiment, which is Heat Embossed. The sentiment stamp is stamped onto Basic Black cardstock with VersaMark ink. Then I applied white embossing powder from Basics Embossing Powder set (set of 3 powders: white, black, and clear). The embossing powder is set using a Heat Tool.
I love watching the MAGIC HAPPEN when Heat Embossing! This technique adds dimension to the stamped sentiment and that bit of WOW! factor! There is not a die to die cut this sentiment. I fussy cut it. Just let the scissors do the work while you work the cardstock around. You can see the embossing a bit better in the picture below. Also notice how Stampin’ Up!’s cardstock is dyed all the way through!
Once I had the sentiment embossed and did my fussy cutting, I popped it up with Stampin’ Dimensionals but NOT before adding black twine around the panel twice. The Baker’s Twine Essentials Pack has FIVE colors and is a crafting staple. The variety of colors makes this pack very versatile and perfect for tags, trimming, and tying.
To finish off my card, I added black embellishments that are retired but check out the NEUTRAL MATTE DOTS below in the Product Table. It comes with four colors of embellishments: Basic Beige, black, Pecan Pie, and white.
TIP: Heat Embossing
Be sure to use an Embossing Buddy on cardstock before Heat Embossing. The Embossing Buddy is a small bag of powder and you rub it over your paper before inking and embossing. This ensures the embossing powder stays only where you want it. It comes in the Embossing Additions Tool Kit, which also includes the following: Powder Pal (like a mini dust pan), crafting tweezers (very useful), and a crafting brush to help sweep off any embossing powder if needed.
