Retired But Not Forgotten – Happiest Birthday Wishes

I entered a card layout challenge last week when I saw this sketch. It had been a LONG time since I had participated in a card challenge (like I’ve done a marathon of them)! All of my SU products I used for my card were retired BUT you can use this layout, as I have, as an inspiration to utilize what you have in your craft room! It’s really so much fun to produce your own card when you have a layout such as this one. I love how this turned out! I also got creative with the ribbon hanging from behind the button and managed to add a third streamer to it! SWEET! I just had a random thought, this embellishment reminds me of those great big football mums that are popular during football homecoming games for the girls! It makes me homesick for Friday Night Football games in Texas! Like I said, a random thought!

The layout from Freshly Made Sketches . . .

I loved the layout and DSP (Designer Series Paper) so much that I had to make a few more and then I ran out of buttons! So I pulled out my Pansy Punch (#130698) and some Pearls (#119247), which are NOT retired, and changed it up a bit! In hindsight, perhaps I should have changed out the polka dot ribbon banner with a coordinating green card stock (CS) banner in it’s place! Oh well! I still love it!

Tips for Mailing Card with Embellishments:

  • When mailing a card that has certain embellishments, I like to add a layer of cut computer paper (4 x 5 1/4) in front of the card face to protect it inside the envelope.
  • When mailing a card that has a bulky embellishment(s) i.e. large buttons, mail it as NON-MACHINABLE! Postage is just slightly higher. I still add a layer of paper to protect the card front inside the envelope.
  • I have also mailed cards in padded mailing envelopes (which SU retired ours) that had really bulky embellishments. It does cost more but so worth it to protect your card.
