Using Card Sketch #5 helped me to get started with my Halloween card. Naturally I had my grand daughter in mind but also the adorable spooky ghosts from the Playful Ghosts Cling Stamp Set. If you’ve been following my blog lately, I’ve been doing a basic, stepped up, and an avid card using the one layout. Plus I usually have a Designer Series Paper (DSP) picked out as well but not this time. You’ll see that I used the bat stamp to basically create my own DSP later in this post.
Getting Started
Since I had my layout, my next decision was picking a stamp set and I could not resist these ghostly cuties!!! They are so adorable but SPOOKY in costume. You’ll only find the Playful Ghosts Cling Stamp Set online. I’ll admit that I forget about the Online Exclusive products but more often than not, I’m remembering to jump online to check them out. Plus Stampin’ Up! has sample projects that you can use for inspiration or you can even CASE (Copy and Share Everything) them! But be sure to always give credit where credit is due. Like my Card Sketches are actually from the 2024-2025 Annual Catalog on page 22. I’m loving that feature of this year’s catalog.
Basic Card Layout
The main imagine up top is basic as well but I used more product to do that particular card. The purpose of this card is to show that YOU CAN make a card! My card is VERY BASIC and you, too, can make this card! I actually made this card AFTER I had made my other cards realizing that I needed a more basic card to show that you don’t need a lot of crafting supplies to make a card and still feel good about mailing it to someone! It’s really the thought that counts and also that you took the time to make a “special card” just for them.
Details:
I used the card sketch layout to make this basic card, using Basic White and Gorgeous Grape cardstock. Using Playful Ghosts Cling Stamp Set, I stamped the images with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored with Stampin’ Write Marker Basic Black.
To STEP IT UP a bit, I popped up the sentiment label with Stampin’ Dimensionals and added Clear Wink of Stella to the bat and to the cape and hat the ghost is wearing. Easy Peasy!!
TIP: I find it easier to color in tight corners with the smaller tip and come back with the broader tip of the marker. Stampin’ Up! markers have dual tips.
Stepped Up Layout
Remember the main image up top but with Pumpkin Pie cardstock? Well this one I used Granny Apple Green. I used Black Embossing Powder to emboss the sentiments and the bat. Y’all know I love to use Clear Wink of Stella anytime I get a chance! I added it to the hat and the cape after I had colored and yes, I fussy cut them with Paper Snips. These little scissors are great for fussy cutting!
I just love these broom-riding ghosts! I used the following Stampin’ Write Markers to color the hats: Pumpkin Pie, Granny Apple Green, Pool Party, Gorgeous Grape. Use Basic Black for the cape and hat band. Daffodil Delight is used for the hat buckle and the broom straw. I used both the Early Espresso and Pecan Pie for the broom handle. I like the Pecan Pie much better. I included the Stampin’ Write Markers in the Product Table as well as the entire collection, which is $14 less than if you buy each color family of 10 markers.
Avid Layout
This card will making its way to Theä, my grand daughter! Her favorite color is green. Here is where I made my own DSP by simply stamping! Wet embossing or dry embossing is normally used when creating an avid card. I had already embossed the sentiments along with the bat in my stepped up card, so I was well on my way to creating an avid card. I stamped and embossed a bunch of bats on the bottom panel but only on the ends. No sense stamping in the middle that gets covered up. Right?! Just a little tip there to save on time.
I wanted to show a closeup of the texture that wet embossing adds to any projects. And of course, don’t forget to add Clear Wink of Stella to the cape and hat!
